▲ Governor Choo Mi-ae presiding over a strategic meeting on semiconductor industry dominance
Gyeonggi Province Governor Choo Mi-ae stated on July 21 that she would continue to address issues regarding power, water supply, and transportation infrastructure to ensure mutual growth with the materials, parts, and equipment (MPE) sector.
Governor Choo made these remarks while visiting the innovation manufacturing center of ASM, a global semiconductor equipment company located in Hwaseong. She held a meeting with Hwaseong Mayor Jeong Myeong-geun, ASM Korea CEO Lee Young-seok, and representatives from local MPE companies.
ASM, headquartered in Almere, Netherlands, is one of the world's top 10 semiconductor equipment manufacturers.
"To maintain a global 'super-gap' in competitiveness, we must rapidly establish a full-cycle semiconductor ecosystem. Seeing this site today, I felt that if the state and the province make efforts, companies can stand tall in such a short period," Governor Choo said.
She added, "My administrative goal is to create an environment where a virtuous cycle is formed, allowing companies, residents, and the entire nation to share in the opportunities while maintaining this super-gap."
During the meeting, participating MPE companies raised concerns regarding difficulties in hiring personnel, a lack of transportation infrastructure, low public awareness of small and medium-sized enterprises, and the need for expanded power supply.
On July 1, her first day in office, Governor Choo signed the K-Semiconductor Innovation Measures for Semiconductor Super-gap, which aims to expedite the creation of semiconductor clusters and build a support system for corporate investment. Her visit to the ASM innovation manufacturing center on this day demonstrates her commitment to overseeing issues related to investment, technology development, and supply chains for semiconductor equipment firms.
