The fire that broke out at the Coupang logistics center in Incheon has been contained after approximately 61 hours.
The Incheon Fire Department announced that the major blaze, which began at the Coupang 32 Logistics Center in Seohae-gu, Incheon, around 6:54 a.m. on July 18, was contained as of 8:00 p.m. today.
The fire occurred at a large-scale logistics center with eight floors above ground and a total floor area of 299,000 square meters. Fire authorities faced significant challenges in extinguishing the flames due to the large amount of flammable materials stored inside and the complex structure of the building.
Following the outbreak of the fire, 121 people, including logistics center staff, evacuated on their own, and there have been no casualties reported so far.
However, Seohae-gu, Incheon, issued an evacuation order for nearby residents due to the risk of building collapse, and approximately 200 people are currently staying in temporary shelters.
Fire authorities issued a national firefighting mobilization order, deploying personnel and equipment from eight nearby cities and provinces to respond with full force. The response level remains in effect even now that the fire has been contained. (Photo: Yonhap News)
