Yun Ho-jung, head of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters (Minister of the Interior and Safety), has instructed relevant agencies and local governments to maintain an emergency duty system and thoroughly manage the situation regarding the heavy rainfall expected to continue throughout this week.
Head of Headquarters Yun ordered the strengthening of surveillance in areas at risk of landslides and regions damaged by forest fires, where the ground has been weakened by previous rainfall, and requested that relevant information and on-site conditions be shared in real-time to ensure that necessary measures can be implemented immediately.
He also emphasized the need to inspect and maintain rainwater drains and drainage facilities, and to monitor semi-basement homes and underpasses in real-time.
Furthermore, he urged that emergency restoration work be carried out promptly in areas where damage has already occurred, while simultaneously implementing safety measures to prepare for additional rainfall and prevent secondary damage.
In addition, he requested the active use of resident evacuation support teams and the repeated dissemination of public safety guidelines through emergency text messages and village broadcasts to ensure residents do not approach dangerous areas.
"As there are concerns about damage due to previous rainfall, we will actively implement necessary measures," said Head of Headquarters Yun. "We ask that citizens refrain from going out and avoid approaching dangerous areas."
