President Lee Jae-myung has appointed Cho Yong-beom, the current Head of the Budget Office, as the new Vice Minister of Planning and Budget.
Kang Yu-jeong, Senior Presidential Secretary for Public Affairs, announced the appointment through a written briefing today (the 20th), introducing the new Vice Minister by stating, "Vice Minister Cho Yong-beom is a top expert in the fields of budget and finance who has held key positions, including Head of the Budget Office."
She added, "He is particularly recognized for his contributions to stabilizing public livelihoods and economic recovery, such as ensuring the shortest possible passage of the supplementary budget to overcome the Middle East war crisis in the first half of this year and exceeding fiscal execution targets."
Secretary Kang stated, "Based on his expertise in budget and finance, he is expected to support the nation's great leap forward by establishing mid-to-long-term national development strategies and making strategic investments for the future, including in artificial intelligence (AI)."
Vice Minister Cho is 54 years old and is a graduate of Jeju National University High School and Seoul National University College of Law.
He has previously served as the Director General for Budget Coordination and Spokesperson at the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
