Wang Seo-yun (Seoul Physical Education Middle School), a promising sprinter in South Korean women's track and field, has set a new Korean middle school record for the fourth time this year.
On July 17, Wang clocked 11.81 seconds in the women's middle school 100m semifinals at the 24th Korea Middle & High School Athletics Championships held at Jeongseon Stadium in Gangwon Province, establishing a new national record for her age group.
Wang, who previously set the record at 11.83 seconds during the women's middle school 100m final at the 55th National Athletics Championships in Mokpo, South Jeolla Province, on May 2, improved her time by 0.02 seconds in just two months.
The 11.81-second mark also ranks as the second-fastest time in the domestic women's 100m this season.
The top spot is held by adult athlete Kim Ju-ha (Siheung City Hall) with 11.76 seconds.
Wang, a second-year middle school student born in 2012, has been showing a steep upward trend, having set Korean middle school records in both the 200m (24.34 seconds) and the 400m relay (47.20 seconds) at the National Youth Sports Festival in May.
She went on to win the final held later that day with a time of 11.90 seconds.
"The detailed guidance from my coach and the advice from the teacher who helped with my rehabilitation were the driving forces behind this record," Wang said. "In particular, my father often gave me advice on correcting my posture, and I think focusing on that led to this good result."
She added, "My goal for this season is to enter the 11.7-second range, and I will do my best to achieve it."
