The professional women's volleyball team Jung Kwan Jang has issued an official apology regarding the conduct of a former coach during a team dinner held in January.
In an apology posted on its social media account today (July 17), the club stated, "We deeply apologize for causing great concern to our fans regarding the recently reported issue involving a member of the coaching staff." The club added, "Upon becoming aware of the matter this past May, we immediately took necessary actions, including separating the involved parties to protect our members and reporting the incident to the Sports Ethics Center. We are fully cooperating with the investigation."
The statement continued, "We will implement necessary follow-up measures in accordance with relevant regulations and procedures based on the investigation results," adding, "We will prioritize the protection of our players and further strengthen our preventive education and management systems."
The 'issue involving a member of the coaching staff' for which the club apologized refers to the actions of a coach, identified as A, who was with the team at the time of the dinner in January.
After identifying the issue in May, the club immediately separated the involved parties and reported the matter to the Sports Ethics Center and the Korea Volleyball Federation (KOVO).
Following the incident, Coach A submitted a resignation to the club.
KOVO plans to decide whether to hold a disciplinary committee meeting based on the findings of the Sports Ethics Center's investigation.
