Starting today, July 17, Constitution Day, monsoon rain is expected across the country throughout the weekend.
First, rain is expected today, mainly in areas south of Chungcheong.
Up to 80mm of heavy rain is forecast for the Honam and Gyeongnam regions, while up to 60mm is expected in Chungcheong and Gyeongbuk. A light 5mm of rain is also expected in the southwestern part of Gyeonggi Province.
Rain will begin in the Seoul metropolitan area tonight and spread across the entire country by Saturday.
Heavy rain will be concentrated in the central regions. Up to 200mm or more is expected in southern Gyeonggi and southern Chungnam, while up to 150mm or more is forecast for central and southern Gangwon. Other central regions, including Seoul, are also expected to see up to 150mm of rain. In particular, intense downpours of up to 80mm per hour are expected between Saturday dawn and morning, so thorough preparations for heavy rain are necessary.

Morning temperatures will start at 23°C (73°F) in Seoul, similar to yesterday.
Daytime highs will reach 32°C (90°F) in Seoul, while the intense heatwave that has persisted in the Yeongnam region will ease slightly.
The rain is expected to gradually taper off starting from western regions on Sunday afternoon, but scattered rain is expected to continue across the country on Monday of next week.
