President Lee: "Broadcasting Commission Must Fulfill Regulatory Role and Respond Thoroughly to False Information"

President Lee Jae-myung has instructed the Korea Communications Commission to "make efforts to respond thoroughly to and prevent the distribution of illegal and false information."

During a policy briefing held this morning (July 16) at the Yeongbingwan of the Blue House, which included the Ministry of Science and ICT, the Korea Communications Commission, and the Personal Information Protection Commission, President Lee told Korea Communications Commission Chairman Kim Jong-cheol, "While promoting broadcasting and communications is important, ensuring they are not misused is an even more critical role."

He added, "Promotion can be achieved by respecting the market and providing necessary support, but the problem lies in the misuse of false and fake information to pursue private interests, serve as a tool for political attacks, or trigger social division and conflict," and emphasized, "You must perform your role well as a regulatory agency."

President Lee stressed, "The social conflict caused by false agitation and the resulting costs are too high," adding, "Establishing certain norms and order to prevent such things is the job of the Korea Communications Commission."
