As the stationary front becomes active again, monsoon rain will fall today (July 16), mainly in regions south of Chungcheong.
Rain will begin in the Honam and Jeju regions in the morning, spreading to Chungcheong in the afternoon and western Gyeongsang by night.
The precipitation is expected to continue until tomorrow.
The expected rainfall through tomorrow is 30 to 80 mm in Honam and Gyeongnam, and 20 to 60 mm in Chungcheong and Gyeongbuk, which is a significant amount. Jeju is expected to see 5 to 30 mm.
Meanwhile, the rest of the Seoul metropolitan area and Gangwon province will be mostly cloudy today.
As heat wave warnings remain in effect, particularly in the Yeongnam region, temperatures in Pohang will soar to 37°C today. Seoul will also reach 32°C, making it hotter than yesterday by about 6 degrees.
Current temperatures are 23.3°C in Seoul and 26.2°C in Daegu, with tropical nights expected mainly in the Yeongnam region. Daytime highs will reach 33°C in Gangneung and 30°C in Gwangju.
Rain is expected to begin nationwide starting this weekend and continue until early next week.
