The Open Championship Announces $17.5 Million Total Purse, $3.2 Million for Winner

The R&A, the organizer of The Open Championship, announced today (July 15) that this year's total prize purse will be $17.5 million (approximately 26 billion KRW), with the winner receiving $3.2 million (approximately 4.78 billion KRW).

Compared to last year, the total purse has increased by $500,000, and the winner's prize has risen by $100,000.

This represents a modest increase compared to the significant prize money hikes seen at other major tournaments this year.

Martin Slumbers, CEO of the R&A, expressed concerns at a press conference last year, stating, "If the prize money for players increases, the budget for other programs supported by the R&A decreases, which affects our mission to promote the popularization of golf."

For other major tournaments held earlier this year, the Masters and the U.S. Open featured a total purse of $22.5 million with a winner's prize of $4.5 million, while the PGA Championship had a total purse of $20.5 million with a winner's prize of $3.69 million.
