Ahn Su-jin, can you give us the details?

With overnight temperatures in Seoul failing to drop below 27°C (81°F), today marks the third straight day of tropical nights.

Sweltering heat will continue throughout the day. In areas where heat wave warnings are in effect across the country, the perceived temperature is expected to rise above 33°C (91°F).

However, the heat will briefly subside when the rain falls. As rain clouds from Typhoon Babi, which has weakened into a tropical depression, approach the country, rain will begin in the Seoul metropolitan area and South Chungcheong Province this morning, expanding to the rest of the central region by the afternoon. By tonight, rain will also reach the southern regions.

In particular, this rain will be short but intense, bringing heavy downpours to the central region. More than 120mm of heavy rain is expected in the northern part of Gyeonggi Province, and over 100mm in the northern part of Gangwon Province. Other parts of the Seoul metropolitan area, including Seoul, will also see up to 100mm of rain. Please take precautions to prevent any rain-related damage.

With preliminary strong wind advisories issued for coastal areas, gusts of around 15 meters per second are expected across the country today, and high waves are anticipated in maritime areas.

The rain is expected to mostly taper off by tomorrow afternoon. For the time being, heat waves and heavy rain will continue to alternate.
