80-Year-Old Found Dead in Vegetable Garden in Yeongdong; Suspected Heat-Related Illness

An 80-year-old man has died while working in a vegetable garden during a heat wave in Yeongdong-gun, North Chungcheong Province.

According to police and fire authorities on Monday, July 13, a resident discovered 80-year-old A collapsed in a vegetable garden at a home in Simcheon-myeon, Yeongdong-gun, at 5:32 p.m. on July 11 and reported the incident.

When police and fire crews arrived at the scene, A was already deceased.

At the time, a heat wave warning was in effect for Yeongdong, and the daytime high reached 35.2°C (95°F).

Police are focusing on the possibility that A died from a heat-related illness while working alone in the garden.
