The HMM cargo ship Namu-ho, which was subjected to a military attack in the Strait of Hormuz, has completed repairs.
According to the government on July 13, repair work on the Namu-ho, currently docked at the Port of Dubai, was recently finished.
This comes approximately two months after the vessel was attacked in the Strait of Hormuz on May 4.
Among the 26 South Korean vessels that were stranded in waters inside the Strait of Hormuz following its blockade due to the Middle East war, the Namu-ho is the only ship to have been subjected to a military attack.
At the time of the strike, an explosion and fire occurred on board the Namu-ho, and it was subsequently towed to the Port of Dubai.
A government investigation team dispatched to the site concluded that the Namu-ho had been hit by a military attack, and the projectile that struck the ship was identified as an Iranian anti-ship missile.
While 24 other South Korean ships were able to exit the Strait of Hormuz following a ceasefire agreement between the United States and Iran, the Namu-ho remained behind for repairs.
Although the Namu-ho has completed its repairs, an immediate departure is difficult.
Tensions are rising again as the United States has launched military operations following Iran's recent attacks on merchant vessels within the Strait of Hormuz.
Iran has stated that it intends to re-blockade the Strait of Hormuz.
