At 5:19 p.m. on July 11, a report was filed with the 119 emergency service stating that a sport utility vehicle (SUV) had plunged into the sea about 50 meters off the coast of Pier 3 at Seogwipo Port in Seogwi-dong, Seogwipo, Jeju.
The 119 rescue team, dispatched immediately after receiving the report, opened the door of the vehicle floating in the water and rescued a woman in her 70s who was inside at 5:28 p.m., just 9 minutes after the report was received.
The woman received emergency treatment and was transported to a hospital at 5:42 p.m.
Police and fire authorities believe the vehicle fell into the water while being driven on the breakwater for the purpose of fishing, and they are currently investigating the exact circumstances of the accident.
