Lim Hae-na, who represented South Korea in ice dance at the Milano Olympics, will now compete for Canada.
Lim, who previously held dual citizenship, chose to represent Canada to compete alongside her new partner, who is Canadian.
Following her split with former partner Quan Ye after the World Championships this past March, Lim officially announced today, July 10, that she will compete as a Canadian athlete with her new partner, Lagha.
After searching for a partner in South Korea but failing to find one, she ultimately decided to join her Canadian partner and compete under the Canadian flag.
In an interview with local media, Lim stated that it was not an easy decision and expressed her gratitude to her South Korean fans. Due to the change in nationality, she will be ineligible for international competition for one year, but she will be able to compete as a member of the Canadian national team at the 2030 Alps Olympics.
