The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport announced today (July 10) that it reached an agreement on increasing flights between Incheon and Ulaanbaatar and expanding traffic rights for regional airports during the South Korea-Mongolia aviation talks held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
The Incheon-Ulaanbaatar route will see an increase from 22 to 24 flights per week during the peak season (June to September).
In terms of seat capacity, this represents an increase from 6,000 to 6,500 seats per week.
During the off-season, the number of flights is planned to increase from the current 12 (3,350 seats) to 14 (3,850 seats) per week.
For domestic regional airports, flights were previously limited to Ulaanbaatar, but they are expected to be able to operate to all airports in Mongolia in the future.
The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport expects that the increase in flight frequency from 24 to 35 per week will contribute to the revitalization of international routes at regional airports.
Last year, the number of passengers between the two countries reached 780,000, a 90 percent increase compared to 410,000 in 2019.
Lee So-young, Director General for Aviation Policy at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, stated, "We plan to actively support the swift increase of flights starting from the July summer peak season to contribute to the expansion of human and material exchanges and the revitalization of the tourism industries in both countries."
