Elon Musk, CEO of Tesla and SpaceX, has admitted that his past remarks claiming Anthropic would not succeed were incorrect.
On July 9 (local time), Musk wrote on social media, "I was clearly wrong about Anthropic," adding, "They are clearly a front-runner in the field of artificial intelligence."
Referring to Anthropic's top-tier AI models, he stated, "No other company has released models as good as Mythos and Fable," and added, "There is no doubt that they (Anthropic) will soon release a second version of Mythos."
When a user suggested that he could destroy Anthropic by cutting off their lease for the data center they rely on, Musk dismissed the idea, saying, "Even if they are a competitor, I would not cut off ties in a way that would cause them serious harm. That is not my style."
Anthropic reportedly leases space at 'Colossus,' a data center operated by SpaceX's AI subsidiary, xAI, in Memphis, Tennessee. However, the contract between the two companies is said to include a provision allowing for cancellation with a 90-day prior notice.
Musk had previously criticized the company in September of last year, writing on social media that "victory was never a possible outcome for Anthropic."
Throughout last year, Musk continued to make negative comments about Anthropic, at one point claiming they "hate Western civilization" and mocking the company's name by calling it "Misanthropic."
