Independent lawmaker Han Dong-hoon has demanded that the police and the Reform Party clarify when they became aware that the so-called "staged terror attack by Reform Party candidate Jeong I-han" was a fabrication, following media reports that the police were aware of the incident before the June 3 local elections.
In a post on his social media account today (July 10), Han stated, "Candidate Jeong I-han received more votes than he would have otherwise due to sympathy over the terror attack, and the citizens of Busan were deceived and effectively robbed of their right to vote."
He continued, "If the fact that the terror attack was staged had been known before the election, far fewer Busan citizens would have voted for candidate Jeong I-han, and the outcome of the (Busan mayoral) election could have changed." He emphasized, "If the police knew it was a staged event before the election, they should have made it public, and the Reform Party should have confessed the truth and forced the candidate to withdraw."
Han added, "In an interview immediately after the election last June, I pointed out that if the police had identified the incident as a staged attack but failed to investigate or disclose it, it would constitute police interference in the election." He further stated, "If they knew about it before the election, both the police and the Reform Party must be held accountable for infringing upon the voting rights of Busan citizens."
