The number of new jobless claims in the United States has decreased, indicating that the labor market remains stable.
The U.S. Department of Labor announced on July 9 (local time) that new jobless claims for the week of June 28 to July 4 totaled 215,000, a decrease of 2,000 from the previous week.
This figure is lower than the 218,000 claims projected by experts surveyed by Dow Jones.
Continuing jobless claims, which track people who have been receiving benefits for two weeks or more, rose by 8,000 to 1.814 million for the week of June 21 to 27.
The increase in continuing claims is attributed to seasonal factors, including filings from non-permanent school staff coinciding with the start of summer vacation.
