Prime Minister Han Seong-suk visited the Seoul Situation Center at the Ministry of the Interior and Safety's Central Disaster and Safety Situation Center at 5:00 p.m. today (July 8) to conduct an emergency inspection of the response to heavy rain.
According to the Prime Minister's Office, the Korea Meteorological Administration provided a weather forecast during today's inspection, while the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment, and the Korea Forest Service reported on their preparations for the heavy rain.
Local governments, including those in North Chungcheong, South Chungcheong, North Jeolla, and North Gyeongsang provinces, also reported their respective measures for dealing with the heavy rain.
Prime Minister Han instructed, "Please significantly strengthen monitoring activities in areas vulnerable to landslides, as well as low-lying areas at risk of flooding such as underpasses and semi-basement housing, and ensure that there are no blind spots in management."
She further emphasized, "Check the status of evacuations and safety measures for residents in areas where casualties are a concern, and promptly inform the public of weather information and behavioral guidelines by utilizing emergency disaster text messages and road electronic display boards."
Prime Minister Han noted that more rain is expected, particularly early tomorrow morning, and urged, "Local governments must ensure thorough preparations for resident evacuations."
She also expressed her gratitude for the hard work of the officials on the front lines of disaster preparedness.
