Bali, Indonesia's premier resort destination, has launched a major crackdown on content creators who enter the country on tourist visas to earn money.

According to foreign media reports including Australia's 9news, Indonesian authorities have implemented new visa regulations that restrict commercial activities by influencers and others who enter on tourist visas.

Under the new rules, foreigners entering on a tourist visa are prohibited from producing and uploading commercial content online, such as promoting products or services.

Even if no cash is exchanged, receiving benefits such as hotel accommodations in return for posting on social media is also subject to sanctions.

Posting content after leaving Bali is no exception.

If the actual filming and sponsorships took place during the stay on a tourist visa, it can be subject to enforcement.

Previously, Indonesia formed an immigration task force consisting of over 100 officers in April to actively monitor content creation activities by foreigners in tourist areas such as Ubud.

The special investigation team has strengthened digital surveillance, including monitoring social media posts, in addition to conducting surprise inspections to identify foreigners suspected of violating visa conditions.

Consequently, all foreign tourists must carry their physical passports and residence permits when visiting beaches or other tourist attractions.

Those caught engaging in commercial activities on a tourist visa may face immediate detention, deportation, and a ban on re-entering Indonesia for at least 10 years.

According to Indonesian authorities, 165 foreigners were deported and 62 were detained for reasons including unauthorized commercial activities between January 1 and April 12 of this year.
