Heavy Rain of Over 150–200mm Expected in Central and Honam Regions Through Tomorrow

Rain is falling across the country today, July 8, due to the influence of a stationary front. In particular, heavy rain of over 150–200mm is expected in the central and Honam regions. Let’s connect to the weather center for more details.

Due to a band of rain clouds stretching from the west to the north, rain is currently falling mainly in the central and Honam regions.

Some areas in South Chungcheong Province are seeing heavy rain of around 40mm per hour.

As a result, heavy rain warnings have been issued, primarily for the Chungcheong and southern Gyeonggi regions.

These warnings are expected to expand further to other parts of the central region, North Gyeongsang Province, and the Honam region.

Let’s take a look at the amount of rainfall recorded from yesterday to the present.

Geumsan has seen heavy rain nearing 100mm, with precipitation concentrated mainly in the central and North Jeolla regions.

Monsoon rain is expected to continue in various parts of the country through tomorrow.

Looking at the forecast, the Seoul metropolitan area, inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon, and northern North Gyeongsang Province could see as much as 150mm or more of rain. Meanwhile, Chungcheong, North Jeolla, and northwestern South Jeolla provinces are expected to receive over 200mm of heavy rain.

Other regions are expected to see between 5mm and 100mm of rain.

In particular, this rain is expected to pour down heavily at a rate of 20–50mm per hour between this evening and tomorrow morning, so please take precautions to prevent any damage.

As heavy rain is also falling in North Korea, water levels in rivers near northern Gyeonggi and northern Gangwon provinces are rising, and currents are becoming faster in some areas, so please be mindful of safety accidents.

Heat wave warnings have been issued for the eastern regions.

In areas currently under these warnings, the perceived temperature is expected to rise to 35°C (95°F) today.

For Friday, rain is forecast only for the Seoul metropolitan area and the Youngseo region.
