The United States has revoked the sanctions waiver on Iranian crude oil, citing the recent attacks on oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. Following this news, international oil prices surged by approximately 5% overnight, climbing back into the low-to-mid $70 range.

Reuters reported, citing an official, that the U.S. administration is revoking the general license that had authorized the sale of Iranian crude oil.

This comes just 15 days after the U.S. Department of the Treasury issued a 60-day temporary license on June 22 allowing the sale of Iranian oil.

Previously, an incident occurred on July 6 in which three oil tankers were attacked in the Strait of Hormuz, leading Saudi Arabia and Qatar to identify Iran as the culprit and lodge strong protests.

The U.S. decision to revoke the Iranian oil license is interpreted as a response to the tanker attacks.

Upon arriving in Türkiye to attend the NATO summit, U.S. President Trump did not hide his discomfort, stating that he was disappointed in Europe.

[Trump / U.S. President: I am very disappointed with NATO. To be honest, if it hadn't been held in Türkiye, I might not have attended.]

He repeatedly criticized European nations, stating that while the U.S. has contributed to NATO, they have not assisted the U.S. in the war with Iran.

On the other hand, Türkiye declared that it would consider selling the U.S. F-35 advanced fighter jets, claiming it has provided more help to the U.S. than other allies, such as by contributing to the improvement of U.S.-Syria relations.

President Trump, however, left room for speculation regarding the withdrawal of U.S. troops from Europe, saying he would wait and see.
