Hyundai Motor Group has tightened its pursuit of top-tier competitors, securing 7th place in the global electric vehicle (EV) market.
According to market research firm SNE Research, the number of EVs (including plug-in hybrid electric vehicles) delivered by Hyundai Motor and Kia from January to May of this year reached 303,000 units, a 24.3% increase compared to the same period last year.
The total global sales volume for the period was 7.754 million units, a 3.5% increase.
Maintaining its 7th place ranking among automotive groups, Hyundai Motor Group narrowed the gap with 6th-place Changan from 78,000 units to 27,000 units, while its market share also rose from 3.3% to 3.9%.
SNE Research analyzed that "Hyundai Motor Group recorded the highest growth rate among top automotive groups," adding that "the recovery of the European market and the expansion of the non-Chinese Asian market drove the performance improvement."
BYD, China's largest EV manufacturer, maintained its 1st place position with 1.157 million units, but its sales decreased by 21.5% compared to last year, and its market share also fell from 19.7% to 14.9%.
Geely ranked 2nd with 779,000 units, a 3.9% decrease, followed by Tesla in 3rd place with 601,000 units, and Volkswagen Group in 4th place with 542,000 units.
SAIC Motor took 5th place, recording 458,000 units, a 6.4% increase.
