One week after the announcement of the three major mega-projects, the Blue House decided today (July 6) to establish the Honam semiconductor cluster on the site of the Gwangju Military Airport. President Lee Jae-myung held a public-private joint meeting and ordered what he called a speed war.

The Blue House announced that it has decided to build the Honam semiconductor cluster on the Gwangju Military Airport site.

The site was selected because its proximity to downtown Gwangju and the KTX station makes it advantageous for securing human resources and establishing living conditions, and because it is state-owned land, which facilitates land acquisition.
The site for the Honam region was decided just one week after the announcement of the three major mega-projects, and President Lee Jae-myung repeatedly emphasized speed during the public-private joint meeting he presided over today.

President Lee also promised financial support using excess tax revenue in the semiconductor sector and ordered the government to prepare clear support measures and present a schedule.
He also urged local governments to do their best to create living conditions, including education and culture, as well as power and water infrastructure.
Regarding the conservative opposition party's criticism of the project's feasibility, President Lee retorted that they should not hinder the project even if they cannot cooperate.
