Hundreds of BTS fans gathered in Santiago, the capital of Chile, on July 5 (local time) under the slogan, "Music and art do not damage the stadium."
They held a protest against the Chilean government's decision to deny approval for three BTS concerts that were scheduled to be held at the Santiago National Stadium this coming October.
While the Chilean government cited technical reasons, fans and some political figures are questioning the motives behind the decision, fueling a growing controversy.
The Chilean National Sports Institute recently notified the organizers that approval was denied, citing the potential for turf damage due to the 360-degree stage installation required for the concert, as well as the potential impact on future large-scale event schedules.
However, hundreds of fans gathered in downtown Santiago, marching peacefully toward the Presidential Palace while singing and holding banners that read, "Let's bring BTS to the National Stadium."
One participant in their 20s, dressed in purple, expressed strong anger, stating, "We have been deprived of the opportunity to meet the artists we love."
A representative from a local fan club expressed regret over the government's decision, noting, "There is practically no alternative venue that can accommodate such a large audience other than the National Stadium."
On the other hand, the Chilean government is taking issue with the fact that the local promoter, DG Medios, began selling tickets before receiving official approval to use the stadium.
Authorities explained, "A stage weighing approximately 600 tons would put significant pressure on the turf, which could cause major disruptions to facility operations during the recovery period."
The government stated that it is reviewing alternative locations, but it is reported that other regional stadiums lack the capacity to accommodate 200,000 spectators over three days or to install the necessary specialized stage equipment.
Some fans have strongly criticized the Chilean government, claiming that this "disrespectful" decision was made to distract from domestic political issues.
The matter has also spilled over into local politics, with the opposition criticizing the government's ability to coordinate cultural events and demanding accountability, while the government maintains that the decision was a legitimate judgment based on administrative procedures.
