To celebrate the 250th anniversary of American independence, a message symbolizing the friendship between the United States and Taiwan was displayed on the exterior of Taipei 101, one of Taiwan's most iconic landmarks.

According to the American Institute in Taiwan (AIT) on July 6, the skyscraper illuminated its exterior with red, blue, and white lights—the colors of the U.S. flag—on the night of July 4, displaying the message, "U.S.-Taiwan Friendship Forever."

In a Facebook post, the AIT stated, "Taipei 101 lit up in the colors of the American flag to pay tribute to the ideals of freedom that have guided us for the past 250 years." The AIT added, "The message 'U.S.-Taiwan Friendship Forever' not only caught the eyes of many but also symbolizes the unwavering friendship between the people of the United States and Taiwan."

The AIT further noted that Taiwan participated in a global lighting event commemorating the 250th anniversary of U.S. independence, joining other major world landmarks such as the Eiffel Tower in France, the Brandenburg Gate in Germany, and N Seoul Tower in South Korea to honor the values of freedom.

Raymond Greene, Director of the AIT, attended the commemorative event on July 5 alongside Legislative Yuan President Han Kuo-yu and Foreign Minister Lin Chia-lung.

"The message 'U.S.-Taiwan Friendship Forever' shining on the exterior of Taipei 101 not only lit up the night sky of Taipei but also demonstrates the steadfast and enduring friendship between the people of the United States and Taiwan," Greene said.

He further emphasized, "The United States and Taiwan will continue to work hand in hand to uphold our shared values of freedom and democracy."
