Police have launched an investigation into a case where a man killed his former girlfriend after tracking her down, despite being under a restraining order.
According to the Gyeonggi Seongnam Jungwon Police Station, a man in his 50s, identified as A, attacked a woman in her 60s, B, with a weapon on a street in Sangdaewon-dong, Jungwon-gu, Seongnam, at approximately 3:00 a.m. today (July 5).
A attempted to harm himself immediately after the crime and is currently undergoing surgery at a hospital.
It is reported that A waited for B, whom he had dated for about four years until recently, to finish her shift at work before committing the crime.
It was found that early last month, B reported to the police that her ex-boyfriend was harassing her and requested protective measures.
In response, the police stated that they issued a warning to A regarding dating violence and advised B to file a formal complaint against him for stalking.
Two days later, after B submitted the complaint, the police issued a restraining order against A, prohibiting him from approaching or contacting B, and provided B with a smart watch for emergency reporting.
According to the police, B used the smart watch to report the attack when A assaulted her. Police arrived at the scene within three minutes and transported B to a hospital, but she ultimately passed away.
The police plan to investigate the exact circumstances of the crime once A recovers.
