The K-Soccer Innovation Committee, co-chaired by Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Choi Hwi-young and FIFA committee member Park Ji-sung, is set to launch.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism announced today (July 3) that the committee will hold its inaugural meeting on July 6 at the Olympic Parktel in Songpa-gu, Seoul.
The committee will include co-chairs Choi Hwi-young and Park Ji-sung, as well as former national team players such as commentator Lee Young-pyo and commentator Park Joo-ho. Other members include Korean Sport & Olympic Committee President Yoo Seung-min, Korea Football Association Executive Director Kim Seung-hee, and various sports officials and experts.
The committee will operate on a temporary basis. In response to calls for soccer reform following the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America, it will comprehensively discuss key tasks to enhance the future competitiveness of Korean soccer, including K-soccer governance, youth player development, and the introduction of advanced technological systems.
Amid recent internal friction within the Korea Football Association and the team's elimination from the North American World Cup tournament, Minister Choi Hwi-young reportedly met with soccer officials and experts to share concerns and gather opinions.
Co-chair Park Ji-sung stated, "Through this innovation committee, we will incorporate the various concerns discussed in the field to design the direction South Korean soccer should take and map out a future where K-soccer can grow sustainably."
Co-chair Choi Hwi-young said, "Comprehensive discussions on major tasks will take place," adding, "We will provide strong support so that a vision for South Korean soccer can be established and implemented in the field, centered around trusted soccer figures."
