As another heatwave is forecast across France, discount supermarkets have seen chaotic scenes, with shoppers engaging in physical altercations and shouting matches while trying to purchase air conditioners at prices lower than the market rate.
Some customers expressed their frustration after rumors spread that there were only two discounted units available at certain stores.
In a public opinion poll conducted in early June, 78 percent of French people stated that air conditioners are harmful to the environment. However, as the heatwave has persisted for over ten days, air conditioners at large supermarkets and electronics stores have completely sold out.
