▲ Kim Min-jae, Vice Minister of the Interior and Safety and head of the preparatory team for the launch of the Major Crime Investigation Agency, inspects the preparation status during a visit to the agency's preparatory office at the Changseong-dong annex of the Government Complex Seoul in Jongno-gu, Seoul, on June 30.

The preparatory team for the launch of the Major Crime Investigation Agency (MCIA) under the Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced that it has finalized the locations for five regional offices of the agency.

The locations for the regional offices have been decided as follows: the Suwon Office will be located at the former Lotte Mart (Yeongtong-dong, Yeongtong-gu, Suwon); the Busan Office at First World Brighton (Myeongji-dong, Gangseo-gu, Busan); the Daegu Office at Namsan Building (Daemyeong-dong, Nam-gu, Daegu); the Daejeon Office at Sejong IT Tower (Jiphyeon-dong, Sejong); and the Gwangju Office at Hangyeong Building (Jungheung-dong, Buk-gu, Gwangju).

The Daejeon Office will be temporarily based in Sejong City, as the agency was unable to secure a suitable site within the Daejeon area at this time.

The preparatory team plans to review options to either construct a new building or relocate the office once a site in the Daejeon area is secured in the future.

The preparatory team explained that it determined it was appropriate to use independent office buildings rather than existing prosecutors' office buildings, in line with the purpose of the MCIA's launch, which is to separate investigation from prosecution.

To this end, the agency selected the final locations after comprehensively reviewing private rental buildings for accessibility and security, and conducting site suitability analyses, on-site inspections, and internal reviews.

The agency plans to secure reserve funds in the future to prepare office spaces and establish necessary facilities.
