The local tax reporting and payment service, which experienced disruptions during data migration following the launch of the Jeonnam-Gwangju Metropolitan City and the administrative restructuring of Incheon Metropolitan City, has returned to normal after 12 hours.
The Ministry of the Interior and Safety announced that the local tax system services resumed around 8:50 p.m. yesterday (July 1).
The ministry stated, "We apologize for failing to provide services according to the scheduled timeline," and emphasized, "We will do our utmost to prevent similar incidents by strengthening system inspections and operational management to ensure stable service delivery."
The service, originally scheduled to resume at 9:00 a.m. yesterday, encountered errors due to a higher-than-expected volume of data processing in the local tax system, taking approximately 12 hours to become fully operational.
Considering that various public services had been suspended twice since the end of last month due to administrative restructuring, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety had initially extended the local tax reporting and payment deadline to July 3. However, with the system normalization delayed yesterday, the deadline has been further extended to July 7 to ensure no taxpayers are disadvantaged.
The outage caused disruptions throughout the day for the online local tax reporting and payment service Wetax, as well as local government civil service counters, automated certificate issuance kiosks, and local tax payments and certificate issuance through the Government24 portal.
A ministry official explained, "Although the service has been restored, it was not operational during business hours today, so the extension (of the local tax reporting and payment deadline) remains in effect," adding, "It is the right thing to do from the perspective of the public."
