South Korea's Top 5 Automakers See 0.9% Rise in June Global Sales; Kia Gains While Hyundai Declines

The combined global sales of South Korea's five major automakers saw a slight increase in June.

As of today (July 1), data on the June global sales of Hyundai Motor, Kia, GM Korea, Renault Korea, and KG Mobility showed a total of 698,800 vehicles sold, a 0.9% increase compared to the same month last year.

Domestic sales reached 121,299 units, up 3.0% from the same month last year.

Kia saw a 18.7% increase with 54,981 units, and KG Mobility also recorded a 20.0% rise with 3,637 units.

Hyundai Motor's domestic sales fell by 6.2% to 58,232 units, while GM Korea and Renault Korea saw declines of 18.0% and 32.2%, respectively.

Overseas sales totaled 577,501 units, a 0.5% increase from the same month last year.

Kia's overseas sales grew by 7.6% to 240,739 units, KG Mobility by 34.6% to 8,345 units, and GM Korea by 7.3% to 47,085 units.

Conversely, Hyundai Motor's overseas sales decreased by 5.8% to 280,081 units, and Renault Korea's dropped by 64.8% to 1,251 units.

Cumulative global sales for the first half of the year reached 3,962,921 units, a 1.0% decrease from the same period last year.

Domestic sales for the first half totaled 661,456 units, down 3.6%, while overseas sales reached 3,301,465 units, a 0.5% decline.

While Kia (1,630,988 units), GM Korea (275,523 units), and KG Mobility (56,759 units) recorded growth, Hyundai Motor (1,966,267 units) and Renault Korea (33,384 units) saw decreases.

The best-selling car in the domestic market for June was the Hyundai Grandeur, which recently introduced a facelift model, taking the top spot with 10,062 units sold.

It was followed by the Kia Sorento (8,561 units), Seltos (6,685 units), Carnival (6,267 units), and Sportage (6,176 units).

For the first half of the year, the Kia Sorento ranked first in cumulative domestic sales (55,426 units), followed by the Hyundai Grandeur (38,390 units), Kia Sportage (31,263 units), Hyundai Sonata (30,339 units), and Kia Carnival (30,202 units).
