The number of members in the Communist Party of China (CPC) exceeded 101 million as of the end of last year.
While the number of party members continues to grow, the growth rate has slowed for four consecutive years.
According to internal statistics released by the Organization Department of the CPC Central Committee on June 30, there were 101,286,000 party members as of December 31 of last year, an increase of 1,015,000 (1.0%) compared to the end of 2024.
Although the number of party members has been steadily increasing in recent years, the rate of growth is gradually declining.
The number of members grew by 3,434,000 (3.7%) in 2021 compared to the previous year, but the growth rate slowed to 1,329,000 (1.4%) in 2022, 1,144,000 (1.2%) in 2023, 1,086,000 (1.1%) in 2024, and further dropped to 1.0% last year.
Among the total membership, 31,914,000 are women, accounting for 31.5%; ethnic minority members number 7,878,000 (7.8%); and those with a college degree or higher account for 59,765,000 (59.0%).
Compared to the previous year, the proportion of female members increased by 0.6 percentage points, ethnic minority members by 0.1 percentage points, and those with a college degree or higher by 1.4 percentage points.
By occupation, those engaged in agriculture, animal husbandry, and fisheries were the largest group, totaling 26,068,000.
This was followed by 22,082,000 retirees, 16,692,000 professional and technical personnel in enterprises and institutions, 11,862,000 management personnel in enterprises and institutions, 6,718,000 workers, 7,429,000 staff in party and government agencies, and 2,537,000 students.
By age, those aged 61 and older formed the largest group at 29,914,000, while those aged 30 and under reached 12,094,000.
The number of grassroots organizations, which are spread throughout villages and enterprises, reached 5,431,000 as of the end of last year, an increase of 181,000 (3.4%) from a year earlier.
