Kim Se-ui, the head of the YouTube channel Garo Sero Institute who was arrested and indicted on charges including the dissemination of false information about actor Kim Soo-hyun, is reportedly being held in a solitary cell at the Seoul Detention Center.
According to a report by the Kyunghyang Shinmun on June 29, Kim has been held in a solitary cell since being transferred to the Seoul Detention Center earlier this month. It is known that Kim's side requested solitary confinement, claiming there is a possibility of threats to his safety from the victims who filed complaints against him.
Correctional authorities generally assign inmates to shared cells, but if it is determined that the protection of the inmate or the maintenance of order within the correctional facility is necessary, they may assign a solitary cell following the relevant procedures. The correctional authorities stated that they cannot disclose the specific reasons for the confinement.
During the first trial for the case involving YouTuber Tzuyang (real name Park Jung-won) held on June 25, Kim's legal representative requested a change of trial date, a closed trial, and restrictions on public attendance, stating, "There are terror threats, so he is being cautious even inside the detention center." However, the court did not accept these requests and proceeded with the trial as scheduled.
Kim was arrested last month on charges including spreading false information that actor Kim Soo-hyun had been dating the late Kim Sae-ron since she was a minor, and threatening the actor by releasing private photos and hinting at further disclosures. The first trial for the Kim Soo-hyun case is scheduled to be held on July 24.
