Police believe that a body part discovered at a public recycling facility in Incheon is highly likely to be medical waste.

The Incheon Yeonsu Police Station stated today (June 18) that they are investigating the human left leg found on June 10, operating under the strong possibility that it is medical waste.

The police have requested an urgent DNA analysis from the National Forensic Service (NFS) to determine if the limb belongs to a patient currently receiving treatment at a hospital.

The body part was discovered during recycling sorting operations at the Nambu Regional Resource Recovery Center in Songdo-dong, Yeonsu-gu, Incheon, at 2:28 p.m. on June 10.

Based on the initial forensic assessment, police have been conducting the investigation under the assumption that the leg belongs to an adult between 161 and 165 centimeters tall.

On June 15, the police added 38 officers from the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency's regional investigation unit to the existing 64-member investigation team to track how the body part entered the facility.

A police official stated, "We plan to compare the DNA of the discovered body part with the genetic information of patients."
