Sejong City has compiled its first supplementary budget proposal of the year, totaling 210.2 billion won, and submitted it to the City Council.
The supplementary budget consists of 177.7 billion won in the general account and 32.5 billion won in special accounts. If the proposal is passed by the City Council as originally planned, the total budget for Sejong City this year will increase to 2.2931 trillion won.
The primary funding sources include 63.1 billion won in state subsidies, 40 billion won in local taxes, and 28.2 billion won in local shared taxes.
In terms of specific allocations, Sejong City has increased the budget for issuing the local currency Yeominjeon by 10.7 billion won and newly allocated 41.7 billion won for support payments to mitigate the impact of high oil prices.
Furthermore, 380 million won has been newly earmarked for the Youth Growth Project to expand the foundation for youth self-reliance, and 170 million won has been newly allocated for a pilot work experience program to provide practical job opportunities for young people.
To address the low birth rate, the city has also increased budgets for fertility treatment costs for infertile couples, childbirth congratulatory grants, paternity support grants, and health management support for mothers and newborns.
In addition, the budget reflects funding for the opening of community centers in Jiphyeon-dong and Sanul-dong, the construction of libraries, and the reinforcement of firefighting equipment.
This supplementary budget proposal will be finalized at the plenary session on the 30th, following preliminary reviews by the City Council's standing committees and a final review by the Special Committee on Budget and Accounts.
