A man in his 60s is under police investigation after causing a fatal accident that killed a 9-year-old child while driving through a red light.
The Seoul Gangdong Police Station announced today (July 7) that they booked the man, identified as A, on charges of causing death by professional negligence under the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Settlement of Traffic Accidents the previous day.
A is accused of striking the 9-year-old elementary school student, who was crossing the street on a bicycle, at a crosswalk in Gangdong-gu, Seoul, at 8:50 p.m. on July 5.
The child was immediately transported to a hospital but passed away.
No signs of drunk or drug-impaired driving were found in A.
The police believe the accident was caused by the driver violating a traffic signal and are currently investigating the specific circumstances of the incident.
