Kim Jae-won, a former announcer who took early retirement from KBS last year, has practiced warm-hearted sharing by donating 10 million won to help children and residents affected by the earthquake disaster in Venezuela.
World Vision, an international relief and development NGO, announced on July 7 that Kim, a former KBS announcer and current promotional ambassador for World Vision, donated 10 million won for emergency relief efforts for children and residents affected by the earthquake in Venezuela.
The donation provided by Kim will be used for emergency relief projects, including the provision of emergency supplies and the restoration of affected areas for children and local residents who lost their homes due to the earthquake in Venezuela.
Kim, who joined KBS as a public broadcaster in 1995 as part of the 21st recruitment class, has been loved by viewers for nearly 30 years while hosting representative KBS programs such as "Morning Yard" and "6 O'Clock My Hometown." After taking early retirement from KBS in July last year, he has been serving as a chair professor at Hansei University.
Alongside his broadcasting career, Kim has consistently engaged in charitable activities. Since being appointed as a World Vision ambassador in 2023, he has visited the Bamba region in Kenya to meet with children and residents, and has continued to support the "School Up" project and tuition for sponsored children. He has also been actively involved in supporting disaster sites and vulnerable groups both domestically and internationally, including contributing to emergency relief efforts for wildfires in Gyeongnam and Gyeongbuk provinces in 2025.
"I decided to participate in this donation with the hope that it will provide small comfort and hope to the children and residents of Venezuela who are going through difficult times after losing their homes to an unexpected earthquake," Kim said. "Disasters are not stories from distant lands, but matters that we should all pay attention to together. I hope many people will share their warm hearts to help our neighbors in need recover their daily lives."
Cho Myung-hwan, Chairman of World Vision, said, "Ambassador Kim Jae-won has been spreading positive influence by consistently practicing sharing wherever help is needed, both at home and abroad. I hope this donation will be of help to the recovery of the daily lives of the children and residents affected by the earthquake in Venezuela."
