Arthur Fery (No. 114, UK), a wildcard entry at Wimbledon, has advanced to the men's singles quarterfinals after defeating veteran Grigor Dimitrov (No. 146, Bulgaria).

Fery defeated Dimitrov 3-2 (7-5, 3-6, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6<10-7>) after a grueling 3-hour and 55-minute match in the Round of 16 at the 2026 Wimbledon Championships (total prize money of 64.2 million pounds) held at the All England Club in London, UK, on July 6.

As a wildcard participant, Fery became the lowest-ranked player to reach the Wimbledon men's singles quarterfinals since Nick Kyrgios (then No. 144, Australia) in 2014.

Prior to this tournament, Fery's best performance in a major tournament was reaching the second round.

He also became the sixth British player in the Open Era to reach the Wimbledon men's singles quarterfinals and the first British wildcard player to reach the quarterfinals of a major men's singles tournament.

Fery, who grew up near Wimbledon, played on Centre Court for the first time in his life and secured the victory amidst enthusiastic support from the home crowd.

In the first set, with the game score at 5-5, Fery broke his opponent's serve in a love game and then held his own serve to take the lead.

After losing the second and third sets to Dimitrov and finding himself on the brink of elimination, Fery conceded two breaks early in the fourth set.

However, he immediately fought back to force the match into a fifth set.

In the final match tie-break, Fery capitalized on his first match point to complete a thrilling comeback victory.

The 1991-born veteran Dimitrov, despite his current low world ranking, once climbed as high as No. 3 in 2017 and has a history of reaching the Wimbledon semifinals in 2014.

After the match, Fery said, "It was my first time playing on this court, and I played five sets against a legend of the sport." He added, "I grew up living five minutes away from here and used to come to watch matches on this court. It is unbelievable."

He continued, "A week ago, I would have been satisfied with just winning a few matches here. Now I have won four matches and reached the quarterfinals. It feels like a dream."

Fery will face Flavio Cobolli (No. 10, Italy) in the quarterfinals.

Cobolli defeated Alex de Minaur (No. 6, Australia) 3-0 (7-5, 7-6<7-4>, 6-3) to reach the Wimbledon quarterfinals for the second consecutive year.

Cobolli, the runner-up at this year's French Open, is aiming for his first-ever major tournament title in this competition.

In the women's singles, Jasmine Paolini (No. 17, Italy) advanced to the quarterfinals after defeating Alexandra Eala (No. 32, Philippines) 2-1 (6-4, 4-6, 6-3) in 2 hours and 22 minutes.

Paolini, the runner-up at both the 2024 Wimbledon and French Open, overcame her recent slump to put an end to Eala's sensational run.

Eala had garnered attention as the first Filipino player in the Open Era to reach the third and fourth rounds of a major tournament.

Paolini's quarterfinal opponent is Marta Kostyuk (No. 13, Ukraine).

Meanwhile, the men's singles fourth-round match between this year's French Open champion Alexander Zverev (No. 3, Germany) and Jiri Lehecka (No. 14, Czech Republic) was suspended due to Wimbledon's 11:00 PM curfew.

The match was halted with Zverev leading 2-0 (6-4, 7-5) and the score tied at 3-3 in the third set, with the remainder of the match scheduled to continue the following day.
