A man in his 40s who attempted to commit arson inside a subway train using a lighter and an insecticide spray has been referred to the prosecution while in custody.

The Seoul Jungbu Police Station announced today (July 6) that it referred the suspect, identified as A, to the prosecution on July 3 on charges of attempted arson of a vehicle in use.

A is accused of attempting to ignite a lighter and spray insecticide toward the emergency door release device inside a subway train heading from Myeong-dong Station to Chungmuro Station on Line 4 at approximately 9:20 p.m. on June 29.

The fire did not actually ignite as passengers intervened and stopped A.
