The press conferences were heated from the start, following the decision to suspend the disciplinary action against the U.S.'s Folarin Balogun after his red card, and reports alleging President Trump's intervention in the matter.

Regarding the suspension of the disciplinary action, Belgium manager Garcia expressed outrage, stating, "I thought it was April Fool's Day," while U.S. manager Pochettino welcomed the decision, saying he was "pleased."
