A heartwarming story about television personality Yoo Jae-suk, who kept a small promise he made 19 years ago while filming the show "Infinite Challenge," is gaining attention once again.
Recently, an Instagram webtoon artist known as A shared a post titled "The Story of Appearing on 'Infinite Challenge' and Attending Yoo Jae-suk's Wedding." A introduced the owner of a grocery store in Jangchung-dong, who appeared in the "Seoul Outing" special of the MBC show "Infinite Challenge" in 2007, as the father of their current boyfriend.
At the time, Yoo Jae-suk was carrying out a mission with Park Myung-soo to travel around Seoul with only 5,000 won. When they found themselves without their wallets, Yoo purchased ice cream for himself and the production crew on credit. He promised the store owner, "I will definitely come back to pay you later. When I get married, I will invite you to my wedding, too."
A wrote, "A few years ago, my boyfriend told me, 'Yoo Jae-suk bought ice cream on credit back then, and later, we actually went to his wedding.'" A added, "It turns out Yoo Jae-suk came in person to pay off the debt and invited the family to his wedding."
A continued, "He even sent pizza and cake through his manager. My boyfriend followed along without knowing much, and ended up having a meal surrounded by celebrities. He said he even saw Noh Hong-chul and Kim Jong-min in person."
Yoo Jae-suk married former MBC announcer Na Kyung-eun in July 2008. At the time of the wedding, Yoo was spotted by broadcast officials in attendance approaching the grocery store owner and his party first, calling them by name and greeting them, which became a topic of conversation.
Yoo's thoughtfulness has been shared as a heartwarming story in the broadcasting industry on numerous occasions. He is consistently talked about by industry insiders for his habit of approaching non-celebrity participants first to take commemorative photos, helping citizens get autographs when they miss the chance, and looking after participants even after filming has concluded.
