▲ After Brazil defeated Japan in the World Cup Round of 32, a Brazilian influencer and their acquaintances engaged in racist cheering mocking Asians, sparking controversy.

Seo Kyeong-duk, a professor at Sungshin Women's University, strongly criticized a Brazilian soccer fan for making a racist gesture during the North and Central America World Cup, stating that they must offer a proper apology, via social media on Monday (July 6).

Recently, after Brazil defeated Japan in the World Cup Round of 32, Brazilian influencer 'brenndamaral' posted a video on their social media story showing themselves and acquaintances making 'slanted eye' gestures to mock Asians.

It is reported that after the controversy erupted, the influencer changed their social media account name and immediately switched the account to private.

Previously, a Mexican soccer fan was captured making a 'slanted eye' gesture and sneering at a Korean influencer's camera at the stadium during the first match of the North and Central America World Cup qualifiers between South Korea and the Czech Republic, which caused significant controversy.

That Mexican man quickly posted an apology on social media once his identity was revealed.

Professor Seo emphasized, "As is well known, the act of pulling one's eyes with fingers is a representative racist act that has been used to demean Asians," adding, "This Brazilian influencer must also make a public apology, and soccer fans around the world must pay close attention to ensure that such incidents do not happen again."
