The Geoje Police Station in Gyeongsangnam-do announced today that it has arrested an 80-year-old man, identified by his surname A, on charges of attempting to murder a hair salon employee and a customer with a weapon.

The Tongyeong Branch of the Changwon District Court issued an arrest warrant for A today after conducting a pre-arrest interrogation, stating that there is a risk of flight.

A is accused of entering a hair salon in Geoje at 11:25 a.m. on July 2 and attacking a 30-year-old female employee, B, and a 40-year-old male customer, C, with a weapon he had prepared in advance.

B and C were transported to a hospital for treatment and are reportedly not in life-threatening condition.

Police arrested A at the scene as a flagrant offender. During the investigation, police applied charges of attempted murder, concluding that A had wielded the weapon with the intent to kill.

A claimed to police that he had ingested poison after the crime, but blood tests at the hospital confirmed that his statement was false.

The police plan to investigate the exact circumstances of the incident, including the relationship between A and the victims and the motive for the crime.
