San Francisco Giants outfielder Lee Jung-hoo benefited from official scorer's rulings in both his batting and defensive play.

On offense, a bunt hit directly to the pitcher was recorded as a base hit, while on defense, a play that appeared to be an error was not charged against him.

Lee started as the fifth hitter and center fielder in an away game against the Colorado Rockies in the 2026 Major League Baseball (MLB) season, held at Coors Field in Denver, Colorado, on July 4 (KST), and recorded one hit and one run in three at-bats.

His season batting average remained at .319 (95 hits in 298 at-bats), maintaining his position as third in the National League (NL) batting rankings.

Trailing 0-3 in the top of the second inning, Lee led off the inning and struck out swinging against right-handed starting pitcher Ryan Feltner.

Reflecting his recent slump, he let a slider right down the middle pass by on the first pitch, and with a count of one ball and two strikes, he swung and missed at a high fastball on the outside corner on the fourth pitch.

He had a stroke of luck in the top of the fourth inning, with his team trailing by a large margin of 1-7.

With one out and no runners on base, he took three balls before watching a fastball down the middle to bring the count to 3-1 and 1 strike.

Lee then attempted a surprise bunt, and the ball went directly to the pitcher.

Feltner caught the ball easily and threw it toward first base, but the ball went past the fielder.

Lee sprinted to reach second base, and the official MLB scorer recorded it as a hit and a throwing error by the pitcher.

Lee subsequently scored on an RBI single to right field by Bryce Eldridge.

He remained quiet in his following at-bats.

In the top of the sixth inning, with the team trailing 3-14, he flew out to left field, and was substituted before the bottom of the sixth inning as the outcome of the game was effectively decided.

The official scorer's ruling also worked in Lee's favor on defense.

In the bottom of the third inning, with the team trailing 1-5, Lee failed to cleanly field a hit to right-center by the opposing team's leadoff hitter Cole Carrigg, letting the ball get past him, which allowed Carrigg to advance to third base.

While it seemed highly likely to be recorded as a single and an error, the MLB official scorer ruled it a triple for Carrigg.

Although Lee benefited in his individual defensive statistics, this play became the catalyst for a large number of runs allowed.

San Francisco starting pitcher Logan Webb faltered afterward, giving up two runs, and ultimately collapsed after allowing 11 hits, two walks, and seven runs with two strikeouts over three innings.

San Francisco suffered a 3-15 blowout loss to Colorado as their pitching staff collapsed.

Meanwhile, Kim Ha-seong of the Atlanta Braves did not play in the home game against the New York Mets.
