The SSG Landers of the KBO League have released foreign pitcher Anthony Veneziano.
The club announced on Saturday, July 4, that they have requested waivers for Veneziano from the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO), adding that they will make an official announcement regarding a new foreign player once administrative procedures are finalized.
SSG has been struggling this season due to a series of injuries and poor performances from their foreign pitchers.
The team's plans were disrupted even before the season began.
Drew VerHagen, who was signed ahead of the 2026 season, had his contract terminated after failing a physical examination, leading the team to sign Veneziano as a replacement.
However, Veneziano failed to meet expectations.
He recorded a disappointing 2 wins and 5 losses with a 6.10 ERA in 16 appearances this season.
In particular, he posted a 7.31 ERA over five appearances in June. In his most recent outing against the KIA Tigers on July 2, he allowed 2 runs on 7 hits and 2 walks with 3 strikeouts over 5 innings.
Another foreign pitcher, Mitch White, was released on June 6 after being limited to just 6 appearances this season due to various injuries.
Ginjiro Hiramoto, a Japanese player brought in to replace the injured White, returned to Japan after recording 3 losses and a 9.56 ERA in 4 games. Thomas Hatch, who was signed as a replacement, is also struggling with a 1 win and 2 loss record and a 7.08 ERA in 4 games.
Shota Takeda, an Asian quota player, is currently 1 win and 7 losses with a 7.41 ERA in 14 games.
Amid the struggles of their foreign pitching staff, SSG has fallen to 9th place following a recent 7-game losing streak.
