Following his visits to the Honam and Chungcheong regions, President Lee Jae-myung held a public briefing in the Yeongnam region today (July 3) regarding the three major mega-projects. An investment plan worth 312 trillion won was announced at the event, with President Lee emphasizing that the Yeongnam region will leap beyond being the domestic leader to become the world's top manufacturing hub.

The Yeongnam Region Public Briefing, presided over by President Lee Jae-myung, was held in Jinju, South Gyeongsang Province, today to discuss investment plans for the "three major mega-projects," including semiconductors, AI data centers, and physical AI.

The total investment plan for high-tech industries in the Yeongnam region amounts to 312 trillion won.

SK Group will invest 140 trillion won in AI data centers, Samsung Electronics will invest 60 trillion won in robot and battery production lines, Hanwha will invest 55 trillion won in the aerospace industry, and Hyundai Motor Group will invest 42 trillion won in areas such as autonomous driving.

President Lee mentioned Gumi's electronics, Ulsan's automobiles, and Pohang's steel, emphasizing that Yeongnam, the cradle of South Korea's industry, will be reborn as the birthplace of high-tech industries.

He also promised that the government would mobilize all national capabilities to respond to the bold moves of the companies that have decided to invest.

Regarding the "three major mega-projects" announced jointly by the government and businesses on June 29 to build an artificial intelligence ecosystem, President Lee reiterated that they are intended to "break the vicious cycle of concentration in the capital region and the extinction of local areas."
