Democratic Party lawmakers gathered today (July 3) to discuss the national policy tasks for the second year of the Lee Jae-myung administration and strategies for operating the National Assembly in the second half of the 22nd term.
The workshop, held this afternoon at the Seoul Dragon City Hotel in Yongsan-gu, Seoul, was attended by Democratic Party lawmakers, as well as Prime Minister Han Sung-sook, Presidential Chief of Staff Kang Hoon-sik, Senior Presidential Secretary for Political Affairs Hong Ihk-pyo, and Presidential Secretary for Political Affairs Jeong Eul-ho.
The Democratic Party emphasized that the party, government, and presidential office must unite as a "one team" to support the key national tasks of the Lee Jae-myung administration.
In his opening remarks, acting leader and floor leader Han Byung-do said, "Today is an occasion for the party, government, and presidential office to become one, reflect on the responsibilities of the ruling party, and pledge to complete legislation for the public's livelihood without setbacks." He added, "We will fulfill the National Assembly's responsibilities by completing the legislation for the Lee Jae-myung administration's key national tasks by the end of this year."
In response, Prime Minister Han said, "For these tasks to be successfully promoted, it is most important above all else for the party, government, presidential office, and the National Assembly to communicate and cooperate closely." She added, "We will work as a competent government during this critical time to create a new turning point for balanced national development."
Lawmakers, dressed in matching white tops, greeted each other warmly in a friendly atmosphere and sat according to their assigned standing committees, with the exception of the party leadership.
Notably, party leadership candidates, including former leader Jung Chung-rae, former Prime Minister Kim Min-seok, and lawmaker Song Young-gil, drew attention by sitting in the front row alongside the leadership.
Attendees held placards reading "Working National Assembly" and "Livelihood, Economy, Growth" for a commemorative photo, and chanted slogans such as "The Democratic Party ensures livelihood stability," "The Democratic Party ensures economic stability," and "The working Democratic Party."
Following the photo session, the event continued behind closed doors, where Presidential Chief of Staff Kang Hoon-sik gave a lecture on the theme of "National Policy Direction and Management Plan for the Second Year of the Administration."
In the second session, which discussed the operation of the National Assembly for the second half of the term, Senior Deputy Floor Leader Cheon Jun-ho presented on the "Operational Direction and Plan for the Second Half of the National Assembly."
