Switzerland has defeated Algeria to advance to the Round of 16 for the fourth consecutive time at the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
Switzerland won 2-0 against Algeria in the Round of 32 match held at BC Place in Vancouver, Canada.
Breel Embolo scored the opening winning goal in the 10th minute of the first half, and Dan Ndoye added another goal one minute into the second half.
Switzerland has now achieved the feat of reaching the Round of 16 in four consecutive tournaments (2014, 2018, 2022, and 2026).
Meanwhile, Algeria, which recorded its best-ever finish with a Round of 16 appearance at the 2014 Brazil World Cup but failed to qualify for the next two tournaments, reached the knockout stage for the second time in its history at this North American tournament, but could not overcome the hurdle of the Round of 32.
